The Overwatch League 2021 just started, giving us a preview of how every player is doing so far. With many new faces coming to the League this season, there are a lot of potential winners for the Rookie of the Year award. Here are the 5 most promising rookies of the Overwatch League 2021 Season.
Tae-sung "Mag" Kim
The Washington Justice’s new main tank player, Tae-sung "Mag" Kim, is one of the most promising rookies of the Overwatch League 2021 Season. Before joining the League, Mag played with RunAway, dominating the Overwatch Contenders Korea.
He can flex on any main tank hero and has the potential to perform well in the Overwatch League with his new team, the Washington Justice.
Se-hwan "ChoiSehwan" Choi
A DPS rookie to watch closely this year is Se-hwan "ChoiSehwan" Choi. The 18-year-old player makes his debuts in the Overwatch League, but already has experience playing with some of the best Contenders teams, like Team KongDoo Panthera and Element Mystic.
During his first week in the Overwatch League, ChoiSehwan proved his ability on Tracer. He notably stuck his Pulse Bomb to Shanghai Dragons and Seoul Dynasty players, two of the best teams in the League.
Qiu "GA9A" Jiaxin
The Chengdu Hunters signed a tank player that could make promising debuts in the Overwatch League: Qiu "GA9A" Jiaxin. The player made a name for himself in LAN tournaments, with impressive plays on Reinhardt and Wrecking Ball.
With Team CC, GA9A dominated the 2020 Season of the Overwatch Contenders China and won both NetEase Esports X Tournaments and The Gauntlet: Asia.
With the experience of the three other tank players in Chengdu Hunters this year, GA9A can quickly find his place in the Overwatch League and lead the Hunters to victory.
Se-hyun "Pelican" Oh
Se-hyun "Pelican" Oh is another contestant for Rookie of the Year. He is one of the most flexible DPS players in the League, mastering a large range of projectile heroes. Pelican is mainly known for flanking skills with heroes such as Sombra and Tracer.
He shares his DPS position in Atlanta Reign with Tae-hoon "Edison" Kim and Kai "Kai" Collins. Edison has enough experience in the League to guide Pelican, giving him all the insights to find his marks quickly. Kai is a hitscan specialist, and will not compete with Pelican for a place in the starting six. Pelican has the skill needed to disrupt enemy teams if he is given the chance.
Jeong-su “Aztac” Park
Last but not least, a support player makes it to our list of the best rookies of the Overwatch League 2021 Season. Jeong-su “Aztac” Park is a flex support player who brought many wins for his teams in Contenders and aims to do the same in the Overwatch League with Toronto Defiant.
Aztac was at the top of support players in Contenders Korea. He played with several teams, notably O2 Blast, Uprising Academy, and WGS Phoenix. With this last team, Aztac won the Overwatch Contenders 2020 Season 2: Korea.
The Overwatch League 2021 Season just got started and promises incredible plays and nerve-wracking matches. Between the seasoned players and young rookies waiting to show their worth, expect a great show this season.
